MONTESPERTOLINO
Montespertoli had the hills, the Chianti and its own history. It had no place that told them together. Montespertolino is that place: an identity and a website built from scratch for the town's stories, events and local products.

There was a blog. There was no identity.

The brief was one place for everything Montespertoli does. An old WordPress blog held five posts. Everything else, from the name on screen to the colours, had to be decided.
Most of what happens in Montespertoli happens a few weekends a year. A site built only on events would look abandoned between one festival and the next.
People planning a trip to the Chianti search in English. A site in one language would never reach them.
Local history travels by word of mouth, and every retelling adds a detail. An article nobody can check is a rumour with a layout.
The first version of the hero drew the hills live in WebGL. On an Intel Iris Xe each frame took 80 ms, and the page could not be used.
The colours were already Montespertoli's. We gave them a name.

An identity from a blank page
A logotype, a mascot and a key, in Verde Chianti and Giallo Sole. The mascot is the sun holding a key and a glass of wine, and it looks the same wherever it appears.
The sun sets as you scroll
The hills are drawn once and stay still. Scrolling, the sun goes down behind them, the title sinks and a question rises. Each frame now takes 17 ms instead of 80.
The same scene at every size
Title and question were measured on 18 screen formats, from 320×568 to 2560×1080. On every one of them they stay above the ridge.

History with its sources
The three history articles close with their sources, linked. Photos from Wikimedia Commons carry author and licence under the picture.

From Instagram to the site
The Instagram carousels came first. The site keeps their title bars, their badge tilted at 14 degrees and their mascot.
Montespertoli already had everything. Now it has a place to tell it.

"We didn't have to invent a place. We had to give it a voice you recognise, from Instagram to the website."
